Architect Valve Pormeister’s design of the so-called Forest House (1984) for the Estonian University of Life Sciences has over time become an important landmark. The new corpus for lecture halls would be too dominant and overshadow a large section of the old building. Hence, the new corpus was partly placed underground, retaining a visage of the old building and the park landscape. Larger lecture halls rise overground, offering a feeling of park pavilions. The auditoriums are situated in a ring form around the inner courtyards. The new corpus leaves an impression of both architecture and landscape. The roof of the building is covered by a walkable lawn.
The corpus of laboratories ends the existing set of buildings and creates two adjacent inner courtyards. It also continues Valve Pormeister’s architectural style in the choice of materials on the facade and the window setting.
