In autumn 2017, Estonian History Museum located in the historical manor ensemble and park of Maarjamäe opened a major new extension– the Film Museum. To fit the new building into the historical context, the solution chosen by a public architectural competition in 2012 divided the new building into multiple sections and located it onto the farther edge of the park to make the whole area attractively usable. In addition to a cinema and a concert hall with 220 seats and an exhibition area, the ensemble of the film museum also includes a separate repository building. The red carpet of the tree-lined lane leading to the museum is bordered by film-themed sculptures by Jass Kaselaan and Kristel Niisuke.
